After more than 18 months of development, months of testing, and many, many long nights troubleshooting performance issues I am proud to announce the release of DotNetNuke 5.1.0.  This release represents the future of the DotNetNuke platform and is now officially recommended for production use.  While many users have been successfully running DotNetNuke 5.0 and 5.0.1 in production for many months, we feel that this 5.x release is finally mature enough that we recommend it for use in production environments.  This release includes hundreds of bug fixes and dozens of enhancements and new features.  Below is a list of just a few of the highlights from the 5.1.0 release.  As always, you can find a complete list of changes on the

Major Highlights

  • Added Content Versioning and simple workflow to the HTML module.
  • Added Admin Console module to simplify access to administrator and host pages
  • Added publicly accessible skin engine lifecycle events
  • Added audit trails to core system tables
  • Added built in support for Google Analytics
  • Added custom sitemap priorities
  • Enhanced the permission system to use the provider model, allowing for custom permission providers

"Added Content Versioning and simple workflow to the HTML module. "

Alleluja! DNN has been *crying out* for content versioning and workflow for years - this brings the framework up to speed with FOSS competitors like Concrete5 :))

Congratulations and thank you to the DNN Corp team for bringing 5.1 to production status!

Superb work team! Thanks for all your hard work. These are huge enhancements and lay the groundwork for even more I'm sure!

Re: DotNetNuke 5.1.0 Released

Added Content Versioning and simple workflow to the HTML module.

This was previously communicated as a Professional version feature. So why is it listed as a feature for the community version? Or is this a list of all highlights regardless of version. If so, you should remove the community logo.

Re: DotNetNuke 5.1.0 Released

Maybe in another year or two the Feedback module will catch up.
It's been in beta for almost a year now...is it being actively worked on??
When will a new/stable/bug-free Feedback module be released??
DNN's major weakness is the uneven quality and pace of module development.
I understand that people have lives, etc., but a 1-year beta phase for one module??
Thank you, Tom

Re: DotNetNuke 5.1.0 Released

Yes, I am perplexed as well. I was very dissapointed to learn that workflow would only be on the pro version, now cautiously optomistic that it is also in the community version. Could you clarify this for us? I have been needing this for so long and it was the number one feature i have been waiting for since hearing wispers of the possibility almost a year ago. That said, your hard work on this project is always appreciated.

Re: DotNetNuke 5.1.0 Released

@Tom - Questions about the feedback module are best asked in the feedback module forum. We try to let each team determine the best timeline for releases based on their roadmap and requests from the community.

@Mike - Please see Nik Kalyani's blog posts on the 5.1 roadmap www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Blogs/tabid/825/EntryId/2226/DotNetNuke-Business-Model-and-Product-Roadmap-Part-2-of-2.aspx and Shaun's comments in the following forum post www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/168/threadid/309436/scope/posts/Default.aspx . One thing to keep in mind as we discuss features is that until we actually get down to the point of scoping the work and designing the feature it is impossible to say exactly how a feature will be implemented.

To specifically address your question, we have implemented a limited workflow capability for the HTML module in the Community Edition and have included versioning as well (note that this is a change from what was posted in the roadmap)..

Re: DotNetNuke 5.1.0 Released

I quote "memond" and add "where is the price list of Professional Version? why isn't public ?"
And for No-Profit web site?

I think if you develop only Professional version , i'll look around for a better alternative..

Re: DotNetNuke 5.1.0 Released

Hi guys... I am really impressed with the 5.1 release, many useful features and seems very stable. We are running into one critical issue for users who use our Dynamic Login module though (or any customers using any custom login module). In the 5.0 release you added code to make sure the Account Login module was on a page before it would redirect to the login page (because of users who probably accidentally set the login page and could never login). Although useful this really limits what users can do for the login page, any custom login module/component can't be used for the login. We were able to direct clients using Dynamic Login to simply add the Account Login module to a page but set the security to be admin only, this was a work around which would work so that they could use Dynamic Login. Well in 5.1 now I guess it even checks to make sure the Account Login module is there, but also that its visible to all users. Any suggested work arounds for this? We have been recommending clients move to 5.1 but this will limit a very popular module of ours and really limits the custom login page all together.
