User Group Meeting in Waddinxveen Netherlands

The user group meeting in Waddinxveen (The Netherlands) was a great success. We had over 35 people attend and our user group sponsor MVIC was a great host. We gave some nice freebies away, SDN T-shirts, Microsoft Training Vouchers. The Prize draw was fun too, handing out a full license of Vista Ultimate, Three {Hero} packages and a year’s subscription to TechNet.

Now on to the important stuff.

A presentation announcing DotNetNuke "Cambrian" was given by Erik van Ballegoij along with DotNetNuke and Visual Studio 2008. Stefan Kamphuis spoke about the advantages of signing up with SDN and the benefits of visiting OpenForce’08 Europe.

If you missed out, there will be other meetings of this magnitude.

Oh yes the food. I have been to some user group meetings in my time but the food was a full spread, soup, cheese, pâté, fish, bread, wine and beer. Amazing.

All thous who attended, thank you for making it a great event.

OpenForce gets going with a flying start.

The morning sessions went off with a flying start. Even though OpenForce registrations weren't has high as I was expecting the session turn out has been very good. I should try to find out how many of the attendees are actual OpenForce attendees because the way it looks, I'm guessing, that we have quite a few SDN members attending. Not that I'm complaining, not in the slightest, this in fact is really great.

Well it is now after lunch and we have just heard Shaun's Keynote. Wow. Even as a core team member it was very empowering to hear.

The future is bright, so just get DotNetNuking!

Another Fantastic SDE (Software Developers Event)

It just doesn't cease to amaze me how this is going! Since last year hooking up with the Software Developers Network in the Netherlands, the DotNetNuke track has grown from strength to strength. Today Friday 23rd March 2007 was another great event and it was only €25- for non members, and this included and decent lunch and coffee breaks. For this event I invited Salar Golestanian from the core to speak. He ran 2 sessions; the first was “The Good the Bad and the Ugly” and the second was “Concept 2 Print in 60 minutes”, both interesting. We also had our new core team member Erik van Ballegoij who run a very interesting session called “Developing a custom Property Editor”. This was a real eye opener. We finished the day with an interactive session hosted by Stefan Kamphuis who opened the floor to the guests with “What do you want to know about DotNetNuke?” This was a really great session and put Eric, Stefan and myself on to the firing line. I would like to see this session happen again, and no doubt will as we have the SDC coming up and I would like to do some hardcore DotNetNuke evening session, when we should have more of the core team there.

DotNetNuke User Group community tour

I have returned from the MVP Summit which I enjoyed to no end. It was great to hook up with the DotNetNuke Corporation and even more fun to spend my last afternoon discussing my ideas about the User Group program. I will not be letting the cat out of the bag in this blog but, I can say there are some exciting times ahead. It was really great that Shaun, Scott, Joe and Nik could see my enthusiasm about running this as well as my love to evangelise DotNetNuke.

At the MVP Summit I managed to hook up with a lot of MVP leads from all over the world but mostly those from the Far East. In December this year I will be doing a DotNetNuke User Group community tour, setting up the user groups in; India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, China and Japan. This is going to be a big job but one that I am going to love and very excited about doing.

I was amazed about how many countries are just as exited about DotNetNuke as I am and ready to setup a DotNetNuke community. The Korean MVP's we positively ecstatic to meet me, like some kind of movie star.
Image module moves to Media Module

With this latest release you will see that your images have been ported to the new Media module. The media module supports the following media:
Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF)
Audio Video Interleave (AVI)
Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG)
MP3 (Audio aspect of MPEG)
Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI)
QuickTime (MOV)
Real Video (RM, RAM)
Shockwave Flash (SWF)
Waveform (WAV)
Windows Media Formats (ASF, ASX,WMA,WMV)
and of course images.

The media is rendered as the extension of the file or the URL
As well as supporting media images can be rendered now as a clickable image navigating to a page/file in your site or to an external URL.

If you are upgrading your site you will see the Image module is not removed. This action was discussed and it was decided that this should be a choice that the host should make by physically deleting the module from the Module Definitions.

A small issue has raised its head with the module Header and Footer text but this is in the process of being updated.
