DotNetNuke Strong in Head-to-Head Open Source CMS Comparison

A recent head-to-head comparison of Open Source CMS products credited DotNetNuke with "high usability, a large number of stock modules, and a penchant for commerce." The article compares DotNetNuke and other offerings such as Alfresco, Drupal, Joomla and Plone:

Head-to-head: Open Source CMS

The review identified authentication, workflow and versioning as shortcomings. Of these authentication has already been addressed in 4.6 and the remaining features are in the pipeline.

We also have some exciting things in store for DotNetNuke 5.0 which will make DotNetNuke even stronger (OpenForce '07 attendees will get a first-look).

Update: This article was also published by InfoWorld with helpful comparison grids:

Open source CMSes prove well worth the price

DotNetNuke.com site changes and enhancements

As regular visitors to DotNetNuke.com may have already noticed, the site has changed. Specifically, we are implementing a long overdue regorganization of the site's information architecture. This process will continue for the next few days, and will then be followed by numerous other enhancements including content updates and additions, skin enhancements and usability enhancements.

One of DotNetNuke Corporation's primary objectives is to increase the visibility of the DotNetNuke Open Source project, both within the ASP.NET technology community and also in the mainstream. The changes we are making are designed to help us achieve this goal. In coming months you can expect to find more content that is geared towards DotNetNuke marketing and learning on the site. If you or your business relies on using and promoting DotNetNuke to your customers, you will find the marketing resources we are producing helpful for your business marketing objectives.

As we work on these changes, there will be occasional hiccups (we are experiencing one today), but rest assured, we will work to correct them quickly. If you have any questions or feedback about the process, please feel free to post a comment to this blog post and I will do my best to respond.

Opening DotNetNuke to a Broader Audience

The year 2006 was a good one for DotNetNuke. We made progress on a number of fronts, but more importantly, we set the wheels in motion for a very exciting 2007. Of the many strategic goals set for the project by DotNetNuke Corporation, there are two that I would like to focus on in this post.

Virtual Machines = Developer Productivity

Joe Brinkman made an excellent post today (Repaving in a Virtual World) about the painful experience of dealing with the crapware most computer manufacturers force on us and the odyssey of re-installing software. About six months ago, I got fed-up with the cycle and decided to end it once and for all by switching entirely to virtual machines (Virtual PC). Now, I am a convert. There is just no going back.
