Normal (or 'proper' as you call them) links supposedly  have a slightly higher ranking by the search engines.   The big engines can still follow basic javascript links. 

But if it bothers you enough, you CAN modify the code and try to figure out how to get normal links for any module, if you want to.  Or use the HTML module and write your own HTML links if it's plausable.

Honestly I wouldn't sweat it if you're worried about natural SEO, there are a many other things to try that would have a greater pageRank effect than having Normal Links.

am currently testing on localhost with a v3.02.00 Blog module - its confusing to hear some of you get html links and some get javascript in this module - I will have to get the latest version and see what it produces.

Yes i can build articles using Text/HTML but I get no content management features - essential if you write a lot of regular content.

If anyone knows of a good publishing solution (for DNN) that will produce clean readable urls based on article titles, and which can manage content I would be glad to hear of it !

Ok, the clue was in the post further up. The 'read more' link is a javascript postback, but the post's title link is straight html.  No issues with Google either way and I have plenty of indexed blog material to prove it. (if anything, I have had more seo trouble with Ajax'd content than this)

The last blog release was a balls-up in several areas and so I did not install it. The team has some great people on board now and the next release has some SEO improvements.

The real reason to choose between the blog and ventrian's module is not in the seo so much as in the organizational heirarchy. The blog places the author at the top of the tree, whilst the News Articles module puts a blank category at the top of the tree, and the remaining categories below that. This is a very important distinction.

There is no advice that anyone can give that will replace the need to test modules in the exact scenario you want to use them. Spend plenty of time doing that.
