Host vs. Administrator account

What exaclty is the difference between the host and administrator accounts that are created by default during an installation.  Is it that the administrator account simply pertains to the default portal and the host account deals with the hosting environment?  The documentation isn't very clear.

Yep, that's just about it.  The Host account can make any changes to any portal in that DNN instance and can force things like banner advertising for the portals, the admin can only make changes within their own portal.

Oh, and only the host can upload/upgrade modules.

Re: Host vs. Administrator account

The host account is also necessary for the SMTP settings (needed for any automated emails sent by the site, as in forum notifications or password reminders), as well as to enable the site log.

Re: Host vs. Administrator account

Many services are defined in Host Settings such as SMTP server, site log, performance strategy.
