Getting Started with DotNetNuke

Hello - I am a DotNetNuke newbie but from what I can tell from the site it looks like a great platform for developing websites and I am very excited to get started.  However, I am not sure which version of the platform to download in order to get started - I am on a Dell Vostro 1700 running Vista Business, I already have Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Sever 2005 installed.  Can someone tell me a good place to get started with the downloads?

Also - what is the best way to get started with developing an application with DotNetNuke on a host server?  Do I need to install DotNetNuke on that server as well?

Thanks very much!

Re: Getting Started with DotNetNuke

to start creating a web site, download latest DotNetNuke 4.8.3 install package and install on the web server, following the installation instructions. you can start creating your web site immediately after passing the installation wizard.

Local installation with Visual Studio is needed only for developing custom module types.

Re: Getting Started with DotNetNuke

Hi Born,

I would also recommend signing up with a hosting account and start playing with it.  Going straight from DotNetNuke Newbie to DotNetNuke Developer can be done, but it isn't easy.  At PowerDNN, we give everybody 15 days free up-front for DotNetNuke hosting so if you're interested, that will give you a perfect place to put your toe in the water and start trying things out.
