Moving FROM webhost to local server.

Hi

I was attempting an upgrade from DNN3 to DNN441 and before upgrade I saved all file of rootdirectory  and exported the database ( it exported itself as sql file not bak or mdf)  now I had some bumps duging upgrade and html module was gone Ihave to reinstall and surely the content of all html modules on everypage is gone too, I can get it if I run saved dnn337 locally but I don't know how!

the main thing is I don;t know what to do with that database in .sql file how to use it? I would have to all portal alias, but I am not good with this stuff I opened my other website database( the one I had for my  site at localhost )  and I see where to add portal alias but I don't know how, and I tried to import the saved database from my website  using server management studio express and it can only import bak files...not sql.

so I am lost at what to do .

Re: Moving FROM webhost to local server.

Did you export the data or just the SQL?  Did you do a backup?  Or does the host have a backup they can restore for you?

Jeff

Re: Moving FROM webhost to local server.

well I have went into the database contorl panel ( web data administrator ) that my hosting provided and I selected the databes that it same name as what I have in my connection string, then I opted to export database

it looked like this
EXPORT DATABASE
Select the database to export:

Objects to export:

Options:

then it would let me save the file like mydatabase.sql

so I thouhgt I have had my database exported (backed up / saved for emergency case like I have now )

I have also backed up all the files and folders of the root directory

I thought that would be enough if I'd need to roll back... at the moment I have DNN441 running on my site quite ok don't see errors anymore, but the problem is that several text/html modules are gone and I can't remember what was there, one site was all  only on text/html modules and now it's empty so I thought if I can use what I have to restore on my computer that would help me to recover all lost content on my running site.

Even if the host will offer a recovery they would recover my running site to dnn337 again and I will have to go through upgrade again probable facing the same errors...
