Is/will there be an upgrade path from Access to SQL?
Modified By Tom Cooley on 2/3/2006 10:58:54 AM)

I've been searching the forums here and on asp.net. I've seen the question asked many times, but I've yet to find a real answer. Now that DNN 3.x and above does not support Access as a data provider, are there any plans to help folks out that want to upgrade their 2.x sites to a current version?

I personally have always used SQL Server so it's no big deal for me, but I'm trying to help out a friend and I don't see an easy route here. The thing is, DNN popularity really took off with version 2.x and the default dataprovider was Access. While I completely understand dropping support for the Access dataprovider, it really leaves people behind who either chose Access or didn't realize they had another choice besides Access.

Is there any work being done either by the core team or someone else to develop an upgrade path?

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Is/will there be an upgrade path from Access to SQL?

That's a pretty good idea.  If I had a copy of a DNN site access database I would do make something.

You can always use the upgrade option in access though to convert the database to SQL server but it would be nice if it got taken care of in the install.
