Is any work being done to solve this Achilles heel of DNN?

The portal concept, which makes DNN so powerful, is also very dangerous once people realize they can't decouple or combine their websites. Granted, links to documents etc would be broken when the portal IDs change. A search and replace function would solve this. Could be a script be created to run like a user adding all the tabs and modules in a preconfigured order thereby createing unique IDs for that instance?  It's all just math so there must be some way to make portals portable.
