Can Oracle Database be used instead of SQL Server?

Can I use Oracle database instead of SQL server? If yes, what are the steps to set it up?

Re: Can Oracle Database be used instead of SQL Server?

there is a commercial oracle provider available, see here: http://www.snowcovered.com/snowcovered2/Default.aspx?tabid=295&search=oracle

mind you: by using a different db backend, chances are almost none of the third party modules will work.. you would have to create your own oracle provider for those modules....

Re: Can Oracle Database be used instead of SQL Server?

Thank you for the info.

How about the standard modules packaged from DNN installations? Do they all work?

Re: Can Oracle Database be used instead of SQL Server?

Yes, but why would you? SQL server express is free, and the cost of creating a non sql data access layer is huge.

If you have some other data in an oracle database that you need to display in your website, you can still do that, and use SQL express for the DNN data - ie you can have more than one database, but the DNN database must be SQL server
