xml skinfiles and how to install?

I have found several free skins around the web. Some are in the regular .ascx format and install beautifully. Some, however, are in .xml files and they wont show after installation. i.e I install them via the upload new skin and it looks like it works, but when I want to set the portal skin the .xml skins dont show up among my skins. How do I install these .xml file skins?

Re: xml skinfiles and how to install?

there is no such thing as a dotnetnuke xml skin. Skin's will frequently have a skin.xml file which sets attributes of skin objects, this installs as part of the zip file the skin is in. In addition, there are skinname.doctype.xml files sometimes in skins, these simply set the doctype for skins, again they're part of the zip file and don't get installed.
