4.8.4.Upgrade errors - web.config deny & value cannot be null
OK... I think I have done all the recommended steps....
  • backed up folder structure and database
  • unzipped the upgrade folder
  • set the permissions for ASPNET, NetworkService, and the local user
  • replaced the web.config with the contents of the release.config
  • reset my connection strings and appsetting strings.
  • set the permissions on the web.config for the aspnet user
  • fire up the default.aspx
The upgrade goes thru the following steps.:

Upgrading DotNetNuke
Current Assembly Version: 04.08.04
Current Database Version: 04.05.03

Everything looks good and then the page completes rdnering with the following error even though I know I gave access to aspnet:
Server Error in '/DotNetNuke' Application.

Access to the path 'D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\DotNetNuke\web.config' is denied.
At this point I am out of options, so I click on the CLick Here to Access Your Portal link and get the following very common error (as follows).
What am I missing?

Server Error in '/DotNetNuke' Application.

Re: 4.8.4.Upgrade errors - web.config deny & value cannot be null

make sure, your web.config file is not write protected and virtual user ("Network Service" or "ASPNET") has full permission in file system.
