Re: Using ODBC in web.config

If you are using native client, why can't you leave it as it is.

Re: Using ODBC in web.config

IT doesn't work ... i try like

<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Driver=DNN_ODBC;Server=DPSWDB09;" providerName="System.Data.Odbc" />

I'm not sure if DNN support ODBC Conecctions i was looking for System.Data.Odbc in the folder bin but i did not find it.

What can i do? I need to do a conecciont string where i did not send the userid and password.

Re: Using ODBC in web.config

Hi, I am having a similar problem. My host (ixwebhosting.com)  provides extremely limited configuration and Db backup facilities. Hence, I want to use a DSN file to connect to SQL server 2000 and configure it to attach the DB to the server. This will allow me to make daily backups which my host does not do.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Re: Using ODBC in web.config

System.Data.Odbc will not be in the bin folder - it should be in the GAC... Also, the SQL version is built using the Enterprise Library (specifically the dll in the bin folder named Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.dll. I don't remember if the particular version in the bin folder supported ODBC or not but you're better off using the native SQL client that is configured with DNN...
I just took a cursory glance at ApplicationBlocks and I believe it builds off System.Data.SqlClient which is NOT the same as the ODBC drivers...

If you are concerned about the user id and password can't you encrypt your user id and password?
