Req advice: 32/64bit, Server2008/Express/Web

Hi all,

I'm buying a new server and am looking for any advice or experience with running DNN on Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 Web or Express, and also whether it's all fine in 64 bits or not.

It'd be great to get all latest the goodies right from the start, but I can't risk going through all the dramas only to find out there is some show-killer issue. Any comment are appreciated.

Rob

64 bit is fine, and usually preferred by SQL.  Multi-processors are also good for SQL.

Re: Req advice: 32/64bit, Server2008/Express/Web

Thanks Jeff,

Yep, getting a quadcore xeon and a bunch of fast drives... just need to be absolutely sure about the software because it'll be a "no going back" situation after I've done some testing and then shifted everything across.

A friend of mine had trouble with a cart module on 64 bit Server2008 and he is running the DNN app in a 32 bit compatibility mode to get around it. That's the sort of thing that makes it a little iffy.

This blog post is a bit dated, but I believe the concepts still apply.
