Re: reinstall without deleting site

You know you if you are installing without any coding you can use the install.zip file, rather than the source.zip file. That's what I use - and it's substantially smaller.  I think it's under 5 mb isn't it?

What you can do is

  • upload the modules to the install/modules folder -
  • Remoe the dnn.config file from the /install/ folder
  • Ask your host to drop the database and recreate another one
  • Delete the Portals/0 folder (although that does appear to be recreated anyway I think)

I can't think of anything else, maybe someone else can - I suppose you could delete the modules in the desktopmodules folder - but you might not need to do that but you would need to put the modules in the install/modules folder to fire the installation scripts.

The main thing would be re remove dnn.config file, drop the db and to make sure you had the modules installed again- you would need to put them back into the folder I mentioned.

See how that goes.

Re: reinstall without deleting site

thanks for your reply nina. However, I am using the install version and not the source version. the install version for dnn 3.2.2 is 10mb (unzipped). i think that removing the portals/0 and dnn.config and web.config may do the trick. also, i have to remove the database tables manually via em as my isp will bill me if drop the database and create another - and they will not do it for me....welcome to the fasthosts.co.uk :(

thanks

Re: reinstall without deleting site

Ooops you could be right regarding the size of the file when unzipped... sorry about that.

And sorry to hear you would be billed to have your db dropped.

What went wrong - why are you rebuilding?

Re: reinstall without deleting site

ok this is the score to date:

installing locally and on another win2k3 server goes smoothly - no problems. however on this isp which is a big and popular isp [we have a reseller account and have not had any other issues with them and their techs assure us that there is no reason dnn will not run on their servers] the installation appears to go ok however the default portal is not created. When viewing the site [directly after the installation] there is a object reference not set ...blah blah...error. Looking at the code and db it appears the default portal is not created [ along with user roles and other stuff] and the error during installation says the some part of e:\ can not be access. well in my case e:\ is the drive but the actual path of the site appears to have been removed. the modules install to the proper location as displayed during the installation but the last step messes up. i've tried to figure it out but without having debug facilities im snookered. i just can find where exactly the path is being messed up, i'm assuming its in components/Portal/PortalController.vb class but thats just my guess. i've also tried to install locally and upload the database but as i'm sure you've guessed that didn't work either. well it almost worked http://www.komunika.co.uk

we have 5 dnn sites lined up (2 already designed) and we are dead in the water with this issue. i've reported this as a bug on the public support site but this is a show stopper for us.
