i didnt install it
Hi everbody I've trying to install it for 2 months but i couldn't make it, isaw every errors:) at the end of i saw this error

DotNetNuke Configuration Error

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows XP you may need to Enable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab. Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.

If using Windows 2000 - IIS5
- the {Server}\ASPNET User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website

If using Windows 2003 - IIS6
- the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website

I made all of thing i couldn't understant,CAN ANYBODY HELP ME?

Re: i didnt install it

You need to follow those instructions - they are fairly well explained.. You need to set the permissions to write to the directory - because by default it is not done.

Follow the instructions listed on your post and you should solve the problem.

Re: i didnt install it
I did all  instructions but i couldn't install it,i cant understand why this error  was shown because i made all of setting about sharing and security permission.
I think it should be from sql server's collation setting but i cant set the setting.
Thanx for your relation

Re: i didnt install it
Hi,

I have the same problem.

I've been trying to install for the past three days and to no avail, I keep on getting the same error.

The problem occurs at the following line (98) in Install.aspx.vb:

strError += Config.Save(xmlConfig, backupFolder & "web_.config")

I've followed closely ALL the installation instructions in the wrox DotNetNuke book, videos, webcasts, forums, web page and so on.

I'm going to trace the problem with some Windows utilities, I will let everyone know if I come up with a solution, as this seems to be a very common installation problem.

Thanks,
chris

i installed it (FINALLY)
I found my problem; it turns out I was not using a local ASPNET account. The other one must've been made manually and called a similar name, which showed up first when I searched for ASPNET in the security dialog.

After that, DNN installed in 2-3 minutes and ran immediately!

I used FILEMON to find out which application user was trying to access the problem file

Hope this helps
