Nice post Tony, this should really help having this post pinned.  I know it is a Frequently Asked Question.

Re: DNN 4.4.0: Where Did All The Modules Go?

I don't see the core desktop modules like text/html and image. How do I go about manually enabling those features? FYI - My installation was almost smooth. I had to manually update some records like portalalias.

Thanks.

image has been replaced by media, Text/HTML should be installed by default. if it is missing, you can download it from the project's download page or extract it from the /install/modules folder of the installation package and install it from Host :: Module Definitions menu item.

Re: DNN 4.4.0: Where Did All The Modules Go?

Hey there!
It's neat how these modules are packaged with the DNN installer without actually being installed.
Does anybody know whether it possible to package other modules like that and how it is done?

That is, suppose I have a module I developed and I want to have it distributed without having to install it on each instance of DNN I set up (but I don't want it to be installed, just distributed).

Thanks in advance,

Re: DNN 4.4.0: Where Did All The Modules Go?

just put regular module packages in the /install/module folder . All you need to do is rename them from *.zip to *.resources. That way they won't be installed, but will be available from the module definitions page

Thank you for that tidbit of information. My Text/HTML was not working properly (it wasn't showing up on any page I attempted to add it to) so I deleted the module, thinking that Text/HTML would appear in the list of available modules. I was very relieved to find these instructions for how to reinstall Text/HTML!
