Yes.  This goes back to the original school of thought for programming environments.  You really NEED to replicate the deployed environment as much as you possibly can. 

If your deployed evironment uses SQL 2000, then continue to develop against it.  If it is SQL 2005, then move to that in your development environment.  I could go on, but you should get the point.  :)  This can and will prevent many (not all) unforseen complications during deployment of your applications.
