DNN Search. How can I make it find my stuff?

I've got an intranet portal with about 1600 pages and about 1900 modules.

The mojority of the content is in the text/html modules and is readily searchable using the DNN search. However I also have a lot of documents availble through the documents modules. I can specify keywords for the pages that contain these modules but these keywords don't seem to be used when executing a DNN search.

How can I make these pages, modules and documents themselves easier to search for. (The main reason the company I work for moved away from a purely html based intranet was due to the inbuilt search facility using DNN.)

Re: DNN Search. How can I make it find my stuff?

Hi,

may I suggest you try out Zoom search?  they have a free module, but the amount of pages you have on your portal exceeds the amount of pages indexed by the free zoom search module, you're gonna have to get the enteprise version.  zoom search does have the ability to search the content of documents also, which makes it quite cool

Thanks Julian, I purchased it yesterday and it's already proving to be well worth the money. Especially with the plugins that can search through the content of pdf documents.

just an additional reference: if you want to make additional texts (Header text, footer text) searchable, use free USearchModule from Eck Two.

Re: DNN Search. How can I make it find my stuff?

Julian,

I've followed the tutorial on how to create the custom search page using the iFrame module. Do you know how I can get a result link that I click on to open at the page rather than opening within the iFrame itself?

For example I do a search and it returns a bunch of results. When I click on one of them it currently opens in the iFrame but I would prefer it to just open the page that the link points to  but not opening another browser.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Adrian
