You can replace the favicon.ico file.

You'll need to replace the favicon.ico file. There's one for each portal you're running. They're located at /portals/<portalID>/favicon.ico

There are a bunch of free ico file generating programs just google gif to ico and you'll get a lot of programs. Hope that helps!
