Editor for Parent and Child Pages only

I'm sorry if this has been asked elsewhere but I have searched and couldn't find anything.

The Situation: I have a site with four parent pages and all of these pages are obviously controlled by the admins.  Page "XYZ" has over 400 child pages. I would like user SuzieQ to be able to edit XYZ and all of XYZ's subpages and make new pages within XYZ, However I do not want SuzieQ to be able to edit any of the other Parent pages or their respective Child Pages.

The Proposal: I tried just giving SuzieQ permission to edit the main page, then using the "Copy to decendants" feature to make the changes take effect on all of the child pages.

The Problem: SuzieQ can now edit XYZ and all of it's child pages, but now she can not add subpages to XYZ...and when an admin adds pages to XYZ SuzieQ does not have permission to edit them unless the admin Specificallys grants them to her.

The Solution: Any ideas? Please remember that SuzieQ CANNOT have access to edit the other pages.

Thanks in advance,

Seaton

Re: Editor for Parent and Child Pages only

Are you granting permissions to the user, SuzieQ?  Or did you create a new security role, assign SuzieQ as a member, and then grant the role permission?

I believe that granting a USER permission to edit a page doesn't truly give the user Edit permission to the page...only Edit permission to the modules in the page.

Try creating a role for SuzieQ and granting permissions to that role.

Re: Editor for Parent and Child Pages only

Thanks Sebastian and Mike,

I tried what Mike suggested, addding SuzieQ to a role by herself and then giving the role permission to edit the parent page and all decendants and that worked.

Thanks Sebastian too for all of your input, I'm not sure if this was a glitch with system or it may have been user error (me.)

Re: Editor for Parent and Child Pages only

Seaton,

I think I discovered that issue when they implemented assigning permissions to a single user.

I'm not sure whether it's an actual bug or working as designed.
