What causes the "neverending redirect" error?

I'm working on a site that has DNN 4.8, and I was working on updating skins yesterday. When I had left it, everything was fine, but this morning I tried to work on the site again, and got this message in Firefox. "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."  IE won't even connect.  I've searched everywhere for a solution for this, or at least some help finding out how it happens, but I've come up with nothing.  The only thing my client's hosting provider has said is "Sorry, we don't know. It is not a server related error and is caused due to changes made in DNN website".  They're always so helpful.

Does anyone here know what's going on?  Or is there a direct link that can at least get me logged in to the admin section so I can see what's going on?

Thanks in advance.

Re: What causes the "neverending redirect" error?

Most likely it is an issue with the portalalias for the site.

have a look at the PortalAlias table, if there is a / after the url, update the record to remove it, then restart the application (add a space to a non-critical spot in the web.config)

That should fix it.

Re: What causes the "neverending redirect" error?

Hi:

Have you changed the Login page under "Admin / Site Settings" ?

If you set a page under login and this page does not have "All Users" view permission the result is a neverending redirection when you try to log in.

If this is your case, here you have the solution:
