LinkClick.aspx as File Name

I've been searching google, and these forums, and I cannot quite get a handle on how to fix the problem.  The question has been asked, but I have not yet seen an answer.  So, the problem is this: I have upgraded, from 3.3.7 to 4.70 (via 4.4.1, 4.5.5, and 4.6.2), and now, when I open or download a file whose link is some variation of "/LinkClick.aspx", the file name appears as "LinkClick.aspx".

I used the release.config that came with the 4.7.0

It occurs in the links module, and the documents module, and a custom module that I built.

Does someone have a resolution for this?  Have I missed a post somewhere?  I am getting ready to run this upgrade on the live site, but I need to have this issue resolved before I do so.

Any help anyone can provide would be most appreciated!

Thanks,

Alex

Re: LinkClick.aspx as File Name

I am having a hard time understanding exactly what is the problem. Are you trying to click a an item in the previously mentioned modules and then a file download dialog box occurs or are you trying to actually retrive the file?

Elaborate further.

Christopher Koeber

Re: LinkClick.aspx as File Name

Both, actually.

If I have it set up to open the file, it will open the correct file, but the title of the file will be "LinkClick.aspx".  If I have it set up to show a dialog, it asks if you want to save "linkclick.pdf" or "linkclick.aspx.pdf", rather than the actual filename.

Does that clear it up any?

Thanks for your reply,

Alex

Re: LinkClick.aspx as File Name

From this thread on the Links Module forum:

"The only way you would be able to control the name of the file is to directly link to it, e.g. use the text/html module and manually create a link to it. The main problem here is that since the file is inside the file respository, it is then accessed via the LinkClick.aspx page. This function helps provide security for your document. When you open this via a browser, it opens the file stream and gives it the name of the page that it is obtaining ti from. This is the behavior of the browser and not the Links Module and therefore cannot be changed."

Re: LinkClick.aspx as File Name

Interesting quote, but I don't buy it.  This only started occurring after we upgraded to DNN 4.7 so it is apparently something that was modified within the core.  In the case of our problem, we place a document in the links module that is a pdf.  The user clicks on the document, we have it set to open in a new window.  When the user tries to save the document name is LinkClick.pdf.  Let me stress a point here, this only STARTED occurring AFTER the upgrade.  If the quote was correct if should have always had this problem but it did not.  That only leave some change in the upgrade.  It isn't a show stopper but it would be nice not to have this problem.  Does anybody have a reason or a fix?
