/$sitepreview/ in portal alais doesn't work???

I have just install a DNN site at a new host and can't move the domain name just yet.  However, I'd like to be able to test my site.

The host support staff said that I need to browse to http://webXX.3essentials.com/$sitepreview/myDomainName.com.  I would think that I should be able to insert webXX.3essentials.com/$sitepreview/myDomainName.com as an alias in my PortalAlais table and it should work.  But it doesn't!!

Why would this not work?

Re: /$sitepreview/ in portal alais doesn't work???

I ran into the same problem when I had to do an install on shared hosting at LunarPages.com. Apparently the $ in the url causes problem in the initial parsing of the portal alias and its use in the page's form tag causes problems with postbacks.  I was never able to resolve the issue other than re-pointing the domain name to the new site much earlier than I would have preferred. See my previous post for a few (unfortunately un-helpful) details: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/201976/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Re: /$sitepreview/ in portal alais doesn't work???

Thanks for the reply Bill.

I wonder if the UrlRewrite could be used in this case.  Hopefully some one else has a fix.

The hosting provider suggests changing my machine's host file, but that would only fix it on my computer..... I want to be able to show the client too.
