Module inheritance?

That's probably not the best title for my question, but basically I'm wondering if a custom module was created for the host portal and the host portal template (which identified the module) was used to create a child portal (which succeffully displays/uses the module), what would happen if the module code was updated? Would it be updated across the board or is the module coded copied over to new portals when they're created?

In short, I'm wondering if making updates in one place will show up for all the child portals using that same module.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Module inheritance?

The templates only contain a reference to what module is present, where it is on the page, and what a few settings, such as the permissions, are. As far as the actual module code is concerned, all instances of the module on any portal in the DNN installation are the exact same one, just with different settings.

So yes, you're wondering correctly... updates to the module code apply everywhere.
