DNN does not run on updating Membership settings in web.config

I installed DNN Source version, for custom Module development. I was using it without problems, but then I decided to update Membership Settings.

I changed 3 things:

1) Set minimum Password length to 6 (default 7)

2) Set RequireQ&A to true (default false)

3) Set RequiresUniqueEmail to true (default false)

After that the installation stopped working. It always shows an Upgrade page (from Install folder). On the bottom of the page, there is a message saying, DNN has been upgraded, Click here to go to the Portal. But clicking on the link again takes back to the same page.

I am using DD 4.8.2. What is the possible reason???

Hi r_honey,

I have tweaked all of those settings successfully, so I know that they work (although I havfen't used requiredQuestionAndAnswer in 4.8.3).  Are there any exceptions logged in your system Event Log or in the EventLog table of your DNN database that might yield a clue as to why things aren't working properly?

Does reverting to your original settings restore site operation?

Brandon

Resorting to Original Settings did not restore operation. I will check out the logs, and inform...

check your file permissions, i've seen this happen before when there were insufficent permssions for the install to update the web.config file (i.e. it couldn't write the installdate node)

Re: DNN does not run on updating Membership settings in web.config

This may sound odd, but I installed a separate copy of DNN, and again got this error. This time around, however, the event sequence leading to disaster was different.

As I said, I am developing custom modules for DNN. During that process, I had DNN running through VS. During debugging of my module, I found a mistake in one of the DLLs I had created & put in /bin folder for my module to use it.

I corrected that error from another instance of VS, recompiled the DLL & put it again in DNN /bin folder (remember, DNN was running).

Then, I got a "Could not unload AppDomain exception." I stopped debugging & then restarted, but to get the same "Upgrade" page being displayed. I think, I might have done this last time also, and modified web.config after I got this error, and so thought this was due to that modification.

So, what now??? Is there any way to restore these installations to normal?? (There is no question of Permission errors, as DNN root has FullControl for everyone)
