Re: Hyperlink to add user to security role?

Hi Will,

I am using 4.8.2 and have been trying to initiate the RSVP Link for days. I have a private forum page that is restricted to invited users only. I will be sending them an email with the link URL. I assume that they will click the link, it will open the site for them to register and then give them access to the role of the RSVP code.

Any comments please.

Cheers
Dennis Whyte

Re: Hyperlink to add user to security role?

If you set up the RSVP, then you will have a custom generated URL in that same form area where you entered your RSVP code to use.  Copy that URL and e-mail it to your intended recipients.

Once they receive the e-mail, they will click on the link, and once they login, they will be told to log off and back on to reload their permissions (and access to any protected areas).

I think what you're really looking for is the RSVP Code feature of the Security Roles.

  1. Login as an Admin and go to the Security Roles page.
  2. Click the pencil for the security role that you want to create a link to.
  3. Go to the Advanced Settings for that role, and enter a value for the RSVP Code.
  4. Click Update.
  5. Go back to the Advanced Settings for the same security role, and there will be an RSVP Link generated for you to paste into your newsletter.

Hey Will,

I am having the ame problem as Tom. I followed your instructions and the RSVP link does not appear.

I've tried:

logging in as Host

Logging in as the Portal Admin

Setting to Public and private role type

Nothing seems to work. Do you have any ideas ??

Thanks

Paul

In the hopes of helping everyone, I created a new blog entry that explains this in more detail.  It is complete with pictures and everything!  ;)

[EDIT]
I almost forgot...  Here is another blog entry I did before that describes another way a visitor can use the RSVP code.
