Re: Best Rich Text Editor

Out of interest.

What are the main reasons that RadEditor or CuteEditor are better than FCK Editor.

Regards

Re: Best Rich Text Editor

While I think that the FCK editor is the best choice for DNN and basic installs - the other editors do offer more features.  Of course they should - you're paying for them.

I'm sure many people have different reasons/features for selecting these RTE's.  The two big one's for me would be the ability to tie templates to user permissions and the code snippet feature.  Cross bowser support, built-in image editing, undo / redo, skins / themes would be just a few of the other differences.

Re: Best Rich Text Editor

Greg,

IMHO FCKEditor is underrated, since its features are extraordinary for a free component. Unfortunately, the integration into DNN still lacks some detail work, e.g. a usefull list of default styles and real wysiwyg - while I cannot blame Locopon for these issues, most are caused by missing standards for skins and modules. Be aware, that some of the features you mention are supported by latest version of FCKEditor as well like improved cross browser support, others are already included as undo / redo, Toolbar Skins, Templates. Image editing could be included by extending the image gallery of the DNN provider - e.g. using the free module on DNN Forge - it only needs a developer with spare time...

Re: Best Rich Text Editor

Sebastian-

I would agree - when DNN first switched to FCK I was quite surprised at the quality of it.

AFAIK it is not possible to tie the templates into the DNN user permissions - the FCK templates are site wide. Of course DNN related  info on the FCK site is pretty thin so maybe it is possible in some way by tweaking the FCK config file.  Looking at the developers guide gives no indication that this is possible however.  I also really like the flexibility of the code snippet feature on the cute editor.  I saw one site that used this feature to tie into the database so they could do template merges - much like mail merge in Outlook - pretty cool.  You are right about the undo/redo - I never noticed!  (grin)

FCK is very under rated. We have run Cute, r.a.d. and have settled on FCK. We are running version 2.6 with a few plug ins and our users are very pleased.

FYI, 2.6 is compatable with Safari but honestly I can see why anyone would use Safari when FF3 is a superior browser and works perfectly with the editor.
