A transport-level error ??

Hi Everyone,

Recently I came across several transport-level errors in the event viewer of my DNN installation (484).

Does anyone know what this means? The exact error is pasted below.

Best regards,

Marc

Re: A transport-level error ??

In simple terms, your SQL Server didn't like you.  Possibly a network error, possibly authentication, possibly even just a timeout.  If these are infrequent and have no effect on your DNN server (it should just try to reconnect) than ignore them.  If you're seeing frequent problems, then you may need to dig into them.

Re: A transport-level error ??

Hi Marc,

This error is caused when a port is forcibly closed by a remote connection.  Since the call stack clearly indicates communication with MSSQL, I assume you are using TCPIP for such communication.  So, either the server itself or MSSQL is killing the port in this case.

Causes for this will vary, and can include a server reboot, a service failing, MSSQL failing, MSSQL reaching its connection limit, or MSSQL reaching its license limit.  The last two are perhaps the most likely.

There are probably a plethora of other reasons that the port would be closed that I'm not thinking of at the moment, but I believe I've covered some of the more common above.  I'd be looking in the server and MSSQL logs for additional evidence; it does not appear here to be DNN-related.

Hope this helps!

Brandon

Re: A transport-level error ??

Jeff / Brandon,

Thank you for your reply. At least I know that this is a database related problem. This mean I will have to figure out which schedule entry is causing this error!!
