Trouble with parent/child portals
Modified By Lindsay Phillips on 3/14/2006 9:26:27 AM)
Hello, I have run multiple sites on DNN 2.1.2 for years and just recently decided to start one of my accounts from scratch with the newer version 3.  I am hosting on webhost4life and used their plugin feature to set everything up.  I have 3 domain names hosted on the same account.  I can access the primary one (http://www.northhillslandscaping.com) and login just fine.  I tried to add parent portals for the other 2 sites (http://www.lindsayscorner.com and http://www.mrsebay.net ) and they added fine but it just keeps redirecting back to the default portal when I enter their URLs.  So I tried to create child portals for them (http://www.northhillslandscaping.com/lindsayscorner and http://www.northhillslandscaping.com/mrsebay ).  Those work fine.  I changed their look a bit to tell them apart.  Then I tried to add the parent portal alias to the child portal and it added it fine....but it still redirects me to the default portal.  Aaaah!  I need http://www.lindsayscorner.com to be the same as going to http://www.northhillslandscaping.com/lindsayscorner , etc.  Any advice on what I need to change would be appreciated.  Thanks!    (Note: I just deleted the child portals in case you were trying to view them)

Re: Trouble with parent/child portals

I'm on Webhost4life as well and can successfully access two parent portals from differetn domain names. I simply created the extra parent portal and inserted the new domain name, then went to the hosting panel and pointed the domain to that installaton of DNN.

Check perhaps that your domains are all pointing to the same place in the hosting control panel?

I am however having related problem and will post aonther topic about this... that I cannot create more than one extra portal.

Rob

Re: Trouble with parent/child portals

OK, I fixed the problem.  I checked the web.config that WH4L automatically set up and it had some temporary URL in the connection settings.  I changed that to my IP and presto...my parent portals all redirect correctly.  *weird*
