no accounts can log in, how to fix this??

After updating our test site to 4.9 from 4.8.4, with no obvious errors displayed, none of the accounts can log in.

How do I fix this??

Thank you, Tom

Re: no accounts can log in, how to fix this??

If the site is working and your only problem is that you can't login, I'd guess that you've got the wrong machine_key in your web.config file.

How did you do the upgrade?  If you used the UPGRADE distribution, this should have been done.  Hopefully, you've got a backup copy of web.config, so you can copy that key manually.

Re: no accounts can log in, how to fix this??

A good place to start would be to make sure that the machineKeys [validationKey/decryptionKey] in your current web.config match your backed up (you did back it up...right?) web.config.

I'd be about 99% sure that's the issue.

Re: no accounts can log in, how to fix this??

Yes, thank you, I didn't have the right machineKey in the web.config.

I did have a backup and I put it in and the site now works properly with logins etc.

Both answers were correct but I could only accept one. :(

Thank you, Tom
