How to redirect sitename.com to www.sitename.com (without 3rd party modules)?

Is it possible to configure DNN (4.4.1) out of the box to redirect any requests for http://sitename.com to http://www.sitename.com? I know I can do it with modules such as SSL_Module, but wondered if SiteURLs.config could be used.

I thought that just having a Portal Alias for www.sitename.com (i.e. no sitename.com alias) might do the trick, but I am finding that requests for http://sitename.com still work (i.e. are not redirected to http://www.sitename.com).

I too am interested in knowing what can be done for this, as I have the same problem with my site, but have yet to find a resolution...

Re: How to redirect sitename.com to www.sitename.com (without 3rd party modules)?

I have sites that respond to both definitions, with and w/o www, see collegeparkjudo.org and www.collegeparkjudo.org.  First, you have to define it in your domain registrar's definition of your site.  You should see a parameter for domain wildcards or subdomains or something like that, usually presented like *.yourdomain.com.  Second, you have to have both aliases in DNN, yourdomain.com, and www.yourdomain.com.  Third, you have to add both Host Headers to the definition of the DNN site in IIS, again, www.yourdomain.com and yourdomain.com.

That's what I did and it is working fine for me.

Also, bear in mind that having your site respond to both forms of the domain definition may affect your search engine optimization (I read that somewhere).

Correct due to some SEO issues among other issues (blog module related....) I am looking to fix the site to automatically redirect the non www URL to the actual www url.
