can I make the search textbox & button hidden ? 

I am new to DNN and  installed DNN 4.8 last week.

is it possible to make default search textbox  & buttn hidden ?

where can I configure it ?

How do you plan to enter text  to search for,  if the text box is missing?

You can remove search alltogether by removing the control from your skin. Have a look at the skinning guide (available from Documentation page in Resources menu above) about Skinning in general.
