Hyperlink to add user to security role?

How do I create a link that allows a Registered user to be added to a security role?  In other words not having to go to their profile and select the security role themselves.  It's for a newsletter opt in.  Just want to create a link for the user to be added to the Newsletter role.

Re: Hyperlink to add user to security role?

Go Admin, Security Roles, User Settings, tick "Display Manage Services".

This enables an additional 'tab' in the user's profile where they can subcribe to whatever roles you've made public. You'll see the default Subscribers role already there.

Re: Hyperlink to add user to security role?

That's a great option, one that  I already had enabled.  However, my goal is to just not have to navigate there.  I was hoping there was a way to create a link that would do that.  That way I could put a link on the home page when the user logged in or registered that would allow them to subscribe to different Roles.

Re: Hyperlink to add user to security role?

I think what you're really looking for is the RSVP Code feature of the Security Roles.

  1. Login as an Admin and go to the Security Roles page.
  2. Click the pencil for the security role that you want to create a link to.
  3. Go to the Advanced Settings for that role, and enter a value for the RSVP Code.
  4. Click Update.
  5. Go back to the Advanced Settings for the same security role, and there will be an RSVP Link generated for you to paste into your newsletter.

Re: Hyperlink to add user to security role?

I see the stupid forum here has truncated my post.. probably after the word "a l e r t".

I has listed a bunch of modules that have tick-box roles subscription tools.... nuke"a l e r t", seamless optin, workcontrol optin, datasprings optin.. They're all on Snowcovered.
