DNS and portal aliase

HI,

I have installed dnn to easy-cgi hosting plan as www.stemcellpartneringseries.org . After that i create child portal as  www.stemcellpartneringseries.org/stemcellpartnering

I want portal alise to my child portal. So i have give portal alise as  stemcellpartnering.org.   stemcellpartnering.org is register in another company so i change domain dns to easy-cgi.  I have complited following steps

1. Create child portal aliase as  stemcellpartnering.org

2. change stemcellpartnering.org DNS to easy-cgi

But still its not working. When i try to brows stemcellpartnering.org its not show my site. DNS setting changes done before 4 days

Re: DNS and portal aliase

Somewhere in your hosting control panel you will find a tool for adding domains to your easy-cgi account. When you have added the domain, there will also be a way to point that domain to your DNN folder. Then it should work.

Re: DNS and portal aliase

Hi,

I have ask from my hosting provider how can i do that. This is his response. I want know is that correct method?

"We have checked and found that the domain stemcellpartnering.org is having Advance plan with EasyCGI. If you wish to redirect the site stemcellpartnering.org to www.stemcellpartneringseries.org/stemcellpartnering then what you can do is change your plan for stemcellpartnering.org from Advance to Web Forwarding.

Webforwarding is the best option. Web Forwarding allows you to point your domain name to any pre-existing web address. This package does not include ftp access or website content.
Easy CGI's Web Forwarding service allows visitors to access your Web Site at http://www.yourdomain.com. There is no need to transfer files from one host to another or make domain configuration changes. Visitors are automatically redirected to your Web Site address seamlessly. You even have the option to choose between a true redirect (where the address changes) or keeping your domain name in the address bar. Email access to your domain is also included so you can create email addresses @ yourdomain.com.
Adding a Web forwarding package will do as you have described, starting at $4.76 / month

Please confirm and let us know if you wish to downgrade your Advance plan to Web Forwarding so that we can proceed further."

Re: DNS and portal aliase

hmm.. I'm not sure that they understand what you're trying to do. And I certainly don't think that downgrading it is the correct solution

One thing to note is this: Cheap shared hosting accounts do not normally include additonal distinct websites. They may say that they let you host unlimited domains, but those must all be the same website. For DNN to give you multiple sites with different domains you need to be able to add another website to your hosting account. This is different from adding another domain alias to the account. Additional websites can have their own email services. Additional domain aliases cannot.

Tell your host that you want to add another website to your account. There is usually a small fee for this.

Once the new website is added, there should be an option in your hosting panel to point the new website to a folder - point it to your DNN root folder.

Re: DNS and portal aliase

redirect frame is fine to that is what we do. we have our website and make portals for other people that buy from use as a curtisy and they just redirect thier site to the address we created as a child protal. Some registers that register the domain name offer a redirect frame at no additional cost. I know for fact that directnic.com supplies this service free of charge. but they are very limited in their hosting at least the last time i looked. But the hosting is not the issue here. just a redirect frame.
