How to compress css and js files?

Hi,

This is my first dnn site, and it's size is huge (258kb - http://parrotstoday.com )

I was setting the Compression Setting to Gzip, but still all the css and js and images aren't compress,

how can I compress some or all of those files

Thanks.

Re: How to compress css and js files?

You can "compress" the file on your site with tools like CSS Compressor at http://www.cssdrive.com/index.php/main/csscompressor/

This will remove the un-need stuff from your CSS such as comments and spaces .. I would keep the un-alter files as the primary reference, then compress when changed

There are other tools, but I have used this one and it seems to work well.

Paul.

Re: How to compress css and js files?

Thanks,

it did help me reduce from css and js (about 24kb less)

but still if anyone have more ideas how to compress more(may be using gzip somehow), it will be helpful.

The best thing you can get is Snapsis Pageblaster - read my review here: http://www.bestwebsites.co.nz/dotnetnuke/module-reviews/snapsis-pageblaster-reviewed/

It will merge and compress your js and css, then gzip them as well for a major performance boost.  AND it will cache, compress and gzip all your pages too .. this module is the best way to super speed your DNN website

Re: How to compress css and js files?

there is also a compression option built in, you can easily enable in Host settings and use e.g. gzip for compression. do not use together with whitespace filter, there will be no gain and issues have been reported.
