Supported filetypes

Hello

I am a proud DNN user and have searched the web for answers to my peculiar problem:

I want to add a lot of fileformats, which the DNN should support but the problem seems to be that
when I reach a certain amount of supported filetypes it won't add anymore.

So I was thinking maybe there is a limit written in somewhere maybe in the web.config-file?

How many fileformats are allowed by DNN? or how do I add more filetypes.

My current workaround involves in deleting the last supported fileformat and change it when my visitors
require it, but it would be better if I could add all the needed fileformats.

Re: Supported filetypes

size of hostSettings.Settingvalue is limited to 256 characters, which equals to 64 entries (3 characters and a comma). Though this is a technical limitation, it is not advisable to increase it for being able to save more extensions. A host should only list file types, which cannot be executes on the server, neither on the client to prevent him from being affected by downloading it.

Whatfor do you need that many different file types?

Re: Supported filetypes

Thank you for the explanation.

I need that many supported filetypes, because the site I am running have a repository module where people with a certain security role should be able to upload and share their work with other certain security role members. And the work they share are not just a few fileformats, they are actually many different fileformats so I was just trying to cover the needed fileformats and ran into that limitation.

Re: Supported filetypes

either ask your users to zip their files (at least less common formats) or modify the database table and the stored procedures to extend field size.
