login works with Firefox but not with IE

Logging on in to my DNN sites e.g. infogram.co.uk works fine when browsed in Firefox, but in IE the login form is visible but login is not effective.

If the wrong login details are given the site correctly requests correction, so the registered user database is being referred to. But if correct login details are given in IE the homepage is shown but username is not shown and login link is still shown, as if no login had occurred. Also pages/modules visible only to registered users are not visible. It's absolutely as if no login had occurred.

I can't get any clues from forums - am I the first with this problem?!

Any help much appreciated thanks.

Dom

Re: login works with Firefox but not with IE

The solution sounds simple after reading the problem symptoms.  Are your cookies enabled for that site in IE?  The DNN authentication is cookies-based.  The symptons you detailed are exactly what is experienced if your cookies are disabled.

Re: login works with Firefox but not with IE
Hello, Having the same problem here with IIS7, DNN 4.8.4 and Windows Vista. Everything works fine with Firefox but not with IE 6 and 7. Allready checked the cookie theory, I disabled/enable/cleared the cookies but still the same. I've tried it with 3 pc's and all the same problem. My guess is that there's something working with IIS7 config/setup. Any idea's? best regards!

Re: login works with Firefox but not with IE

Is it possible that you have an IE plugin that is overriding the IE settings?  (i.e., IE Developer Toolbar)   The behavior that was described leads directly to the cookie not being written, as it sounds like all other functionality on the site is working correctly.

Re: login works with Firefox but not with IE
hello, thank you for the response but I don't think that's the problem because I tried this on several pc's with IE installed (default). But none of these seem to work. So it's really an IIS7/Vista problem I think. Firefox everything works but not in IE, even IE on a windows xp default/new install. any idea? best regards
