Sending objects to other pages

Hi all

I've been trying to pass an object from one page to another.  The object is a query of the Amazon Product database and takes a while to generate plus i am only allowed to send requests to amazon once a second.  As a result i need to find a way to keep sending the data around without having to bother amazon more than once.

Whats the best way to do this and how?  My first idea what to use session variables.  Do i need to serialize the object to do this, also how do i serialize an object?

Any help would be most appreciated

Si

Re: Sending objects to other pages

I personally would not recommend using session, but it could work.  If the data is not user specific but application specific you could throw it into the cache.

To be able to serialize an object, you just have to mark it as Serializable.

Re: Sending objects to other pages

I used sessions in the end and it works fine.  For what reason would you recommend using the cache instead?  The data isn't user specific so the cache would be ok to use instead.

Re: Sending objects to other pages

There are a few reasons not to use session.

1) Session is per user, therefore if you are holding non-user specific information session will contain multiple object copies
2) Session does not work in multi-web server locations
3) Overall session is not reliable, timeouts occur, and if you are really looking to preserve data, other methods work better.
