Static backgroundimage and floating content?!

I need help! I am trying to create a skin with certain specs. I have a background image for the skin 1280*1024 pixels large. The content part of the skin (ie banner, menu, panes etc) is centered on this picture so that a highligted white overlay draws focus to the centr of this picture. My problem lays in the different resolution settings and windowsizes that viewers may have. Is there a way to set a large background image for a skin that resizes depending on viewers resolution? or do I need to create a redirect page and multiple skins to be viewd depending on where you are redirected?

More importantly is there a way to program the .ascx skinfile so that the actual content allways floats to the center of the page? in that case perhaps it is possible to fix this that way? i.e a resizable skin!? I know you can set the skinwidth to 100% and hence get it resizable, but this does not help me. Since I in that case also need to place a resizefunction on the background image as well. Is this possible?
