Removing DNN generic main menu

Could anyone give me directions on how to remove the generic main menu or navigation module from my site?  I have replaced the main menu with one from "nav suite" but my pages now show the two menus.  Any help is appreciated.

Re: Removing DNN generic main menu

Need to make sure in the skin HTML/ascx file that there is no token / control for solparmenu or Nav.

Thanks for your response but I am not sure how to find this file.  Could you give me clearer step by step directions?  I am very new to DNN.

Re: Removing DNN generic main menu

You might want to take a look at DNNCreative.com for skinning help, but removing the menu isn't hard.  Simplest way is to directly edit the .ascx file for the skin you use.  It will normally be in /Portals/_default/Skins/{SkinName}/{PageSkin}.ascx.  The names will depend on your skin and which one you use for that page, so if you used the DNN Blue skin and the Horizontal Menu - Full Width page skin, then it would look like:

/Portals/_default/Skins/DNN-Blue/Horizontal Menu - Full Width.ascx

In that file you'll see a line with something like:

"<dnn:NAV runat="server" id="dnnNAV" ..."

Assuming you're using the current DNN NAV menu.  You need to remove that control, from the <dnn:NAV to the /> at the end of it.

That removes the control, but not the table cell or whatever it was in.  You would need to do more editing of the skin if you need to change this, for that you'll need to have at least some basic skills of skin editing.

Jeff

Re: Removing DNN generic main menu

Jeff

Thanks for the better detail.

I think it's something that has to do with "menu settings" in the "navigation suite" I purchased separately from snowcovered.com and I am trying to use.  The directions from the developer are atrocious and they have so far not responded to any inquiries or support questions except for when I had trouble installing the suite when I bought it.  Before I start getting rid of files or changing code I realy need to see if there is something I am not doing correctly with the actual settings that come with the purchased nav suite. There's got to be a simpler answer.

Do you know anything about this nav suite add on?  Does anyone out there have nav suite and would they be willing to tell me how to get the new menu I choose to simply replace the generic DNN one?
