How do you install a new skin?

Sorry to ask such a basic question but I can't find anywhere to actually upload a skin in the admin panel.  I've followed a few tutorials to make the skins but when it comes to uploading, I'm getting stuck.  I wonder if the tutorials are refering to older versions of DNN.  We've insalled the latest - 4.8.2, I think.  I've spent ages clicking around the page but I just can't find anywhere to upload a skin.

Re: How do you install a new skin?

Hi Jonny,

You'll need to be logged into either an Admin or Host account.  Once you've done this, look under the Admin (or Host) menu for the "Skins" menu option.

Once there, click on the "Upload Skin" link (under the default skin, this will be located near the bottom of the page).  That's it!

Brandon

As an admin you cannot upload any skins unless the host allows you to.

Re: How do you install a new skin?

Cheers, it looks like the host won't allow us to upload skins.  This seems bizarre to me.

If anyone's enterested the hosting company is:

ihostasp.net

So if you want hosting, with a DNN pre-installation then these are the guys to use but be aware that you CANNOT UPLOAD YOUR OWN SKINS or anyone else's for that matter.  Genius.

We are now setting up hosting with a 3rd company.  The 2nd wouldn't let us do anything without a live URL - mycgi.com.  We normally build on the actual URL and connect using the Windows HOSTS file until it's finished.  I thought that this was normal.  It certainly is for us.

Jon.

Re: How do you install a new skin?

If a hosting company is smart, they will not allow you to upload skins. It is not very secure to allow Admins skin upload (since you are potentially uploading server side code (ascx files).

The hositng company could install the skin for you though, or you could find ASP.NET hosting where you install your own DNN vesion and have Host access.
