Compatibility of Skins from DNN 4.8.x to 5.x

Will skins that are compatible with DNN version 4.8.x be compatible in version 5.x when it is released?

Thanks.

Derek

One would greatly assume so, but I would like to hear an answer as well.  I cant wait until verison 5 is released, is there any documents with info on the new version at all?

The skinning engine hasn't changed much over the past few releases. In Cambrian, Shaun Walker has mentioned a few enhancements to improve the skinning development workflow. I don't think if it's going to be different. But if it is, there should be some soft of documentation discuss about it.

Its safe to assume that a typical skin would be compatiable with 5.x. There appears to be many new features added to the skin engine and the skin engine has become more of a module object then its original skin only engine, which is good. You can package skin objects with skins now. :)

the only differences you are likely to see are how the nav menu is rendered, and possibly some spacing issues which need reworked, as I believe 5.x DNN is suppost to be a bit more XHTML compliant.

Which could mean it uses a few different tags here and there which might create some spacing issues. Nothing that wouldn't be quickly fixed though.
