New Error in VS.Net and IIS with DNN
I have IIS, SQLServer and VS.Net installed on the same machine for dev. All has been working well and all projects open/load without errors etc... As of two days ago, VS.Net will not open any current/past Web solution with a message stating that the Web Server is not running, but IIS is running as is SQL Server. If I start a whole new Web project, it creates and opens the project just fine and I can continue. VS.Net re-opens newly created solutions no problem but nothing from two days ago or prior to that. ANY IDEAS as I cannot get to any of my DNN work at all. Thanks

Re: New Error in VS.Net and IIS with DNN

vs.net 2003 has a number of different 'funnies' where it suddenly stops working on webprojects. Most of these can be fixed by

  • go to c:\documents and settings\<your username>\vswebcache, and delete the folder(s) within it.
  • go to c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\Temporary ASP.NET Files and delete the file(s) and folder(s) within it
  • open a DOS window and type IISRESET to do a full restart of IIS
  • on occasion, the GUID in your sln is clashing with another, so sometimes if you delete the sln file, and open the project by opening the vbproj (and immeadiately save it to create a new sln file with a new GUID), this clears up the issue.

Re: New Error in VS.Net and IIS with DNN
Thanks for all those tips. I will add them to my "fixes" list 'cos they'll be handy I'm sure. I did get it all to work again by running the dotnetfx.exe as all errors were pointig at ambiguous references in some way. That fixed the problem for now. Cheers.
