User roles and permission;
Hi All,

Can any one tell me how I can proceed with defining different user roles and their permissions?
I want to make sure that our portal provides the facility of adding / deleting / editing new users, their roles and their permission to view / edit modules.
I have seen that “host” and “admin” are the available users; how can I add new user and assign them role and permissions? Does dot net nuke provide screen for that? Do I need to write down in the application something like
If ( userid == xxx)
{
Don’t load this page…. Or open page in readonly mode….
}

Thanks.

Re: User roles and permission;

From the Admin menu, you can go to Security Roles, and then use the action dropdown in the top left corner to add new roles. You can then use the User Accounts screen from the Admin menu to add users in the same way.  Clicking on the Settings for a page will let you define which roles (and, in newer versions, users) can edit or view the pages.  Going into the settings from the action dropdown for specific modules will let you define the same restrictions for specific modules.

Let me know if you need to know anything else.

Re: User roles and permission;

we are in the process of upgrading to asp2.0/dnn4.5.3 from asp1.1/dnn2 - I have a user 'me' and have granted that user with role of 'HO'. I then set the permissions to the page to allow 'HO' - then when logged in that page isn't an option.  If I allow all users it is.  So, something isn't jiving with the user role.  Can you help with this?
