Access page elements in include files

Hi,

 How can I get a code behind file to access an element on a webpage? At the moment I get an undeclared variable error, but if I copy the code into the page directly it works fine. I'm using .net 1

Class:

Public Class helpdesk

    Inherits system.web.ui.page

    Sub show_form()
    fitems.Visible = True
    fstatus.Visible = True
    End Sub

End class

Page code:
<%@ Page Language ="VB" Src ="scode.aspx.vb" Inherits ="helpdesk" %>
<%@ Import Namespace="System.Data" %>
<%@ Import Namespace="System.Data.SqlClient" %>

 <Script language="vb" Runat="Server">
....
</script>

 I know the pages are communicating fine because a variable in the class can be accessed by the aspx page. I'm not sure whether I should be using or importing some class.

 On a similar note, is the code behind file strictly for code or can you store html elements in it as well (like the old asp server side include). If not I was wondering whats the best way to have consistent (i.e.) navigation links across several .net pages?

info much appreciated

Thanks

Re: Access page elements in include files

In what way is this question related to DNN? You might have more luck at forums.asp.net...
