Extending Portal Attributes
Hi All,

I'm wanting to add extended properties to a portal. These may be something like District or Area or Zone etc etc. From the parent portal, I'd add District, Areas or Zones to the db. When I add a child portal, I want to choose which District, Area or Zone the child portal belongs in.

This is just an example really.

I'm actually looking for a way to extend the properties of a portal and/or child portals, regardless of what those properties might be.

Was going to create a few new minor modules representing each property eg: District, Area or Zone but that doesn't seem like the best solution.

What I'm really wanting to do is add fields to the Portals table, ie: Property IDs for each property assigned to each portal.
These would simply point to "look up" tables which I can populate either manally in the db or from a module on the parent.

I guess there are many ways to skin the cat so I was hoping for some suggestions on this as I know many of you must have done something similar!

Thanks,

Lindsay

Re: Extending Portal Attributes

you will need to extend the core framework, but be aware, that you will need to transfer those changes on each upgrade.

Re: Extending Portal Attributes
Yep, I realise that and the implications. Currently on 3.3.7 and will redevelop as I get familiar with the VS2005 and DNN 4.x environment.

What about other ways to add or assign attributes to a Portal WITHOUT extending the Core? I did look at Dynamic Registration module and it's OK at a user level but not sufficient at the Portal level.

Any other ideas guys?

Thanks
