Rewrite URL: Remove folder name from URL

Hello Friends,

I want to remove the folder name that appears in my DNN portal URL.

Currently I am referring my portal using following URL http://www.dnnportal.com/mywebsite (The URL is dummy just to explain the scenario).

The www.dnnportal point to a physical directory named "DNNPortals" this directory contains a default.asp page which redirect the http://www.dnnportal.com to http://www.dnnportal.com/mywebsite.

When ever I browse any page the mywebsite comes in URL. I want to remove it from the URL.

Is it possible to do using URL rewriting? Can I do it using "Friendly Url Settings" OR " Request Filter Settings?

Thanks,
Mahesh

Re: Rewrite URL: Remove folder name from URL

Alter your IIS web site configuration pointing directly to your DNN installation directory. Make sure there is a portal alias for www.dnnportal.com added in Host :: Portals first.

Re: Rewrite URL: Remove folder name from URL

Hi Sebastian,

Can't I use HostHeader to remove the folder name from URL. I don't know what setting required in IIS and Web.config to use HostHeader. If you have any idea then please provide me steps to configure HostHeader.

Your help highly appreciated

Thanks,
Mahesh

Re: Rewrite URL: Remove folder name from URL

you need to make sure, your requests get directed to DNN, i.e. you would need URL rewrite on IIS level. IMO adjusting IIS configuration is much easier and doesn't produce overhead. Are you hosting your web site with a provider? I suggest to contact the support team for assistance. If you are hosting the web site yourself, make sure, you created a web site for your DotNetNuke (not a virtual folder in default web site), this requires Windows Server or Windows Vista.
