Newbie Question - Adding a simple form

Hello, I'm new to DNN and I've got a quick question, if I have the need to add a VB .NET form to a site that uses DNN do I have to create a module to add this form to the site?  For example, I need to add a form that has a calculator on it and the calculator is done on VB .NET, this would be a simple page, something like webcalculator.aspx on a web project, but If I want this page to be on a DNN enabled environment, does it need to be as a module or is there another way?

Thanks,

Re: Newbie Question - Adding a simple form

Anyone, anyone?  I just bought the dotnetnuke book and glanced trough it, but could not find a direct answer to what I was looking for, will read with more detail later. I'm just looking for a quick way to add functionality without coding much (cause I'm not a god coder).

Thanks

Re: Newbie Question - Adding a simple form

I think you have 3 choices

  1. Build your own DNN module.
  2. Buy a 3rd party form creating module like xmod.
  3. If it's just a simple calculator, you could build that in Javascript and place it in a Text/MTL module

Re: Newbie Question - Adding a simple form

You need to use the existing form which comes shipped with the dnn build, or you can use a third party forms module to create forms.

Re: Newbie Question - Adding a simple form

I'll add a couple of  ways I've dealt with this:

  1. Just use an Iframe to the code page containing your form.  Disadvantage is having to set it up this way, but you can automate that - see #2.

  2. Browse to EZ-Objects >> Content >> Match Up.  This game uses a form.  It is incorporated into an object that you can build into a module.  Substitute the "WebFileContent" code for your finished code (you can use Stringbuilder).  Maybe confusing, this is a little bit different - but not hard to do.  The advantage is it delivers a module package that will work on any DNN portal, therefore no hassle in setting it up if you want to share it with other portals.  If your interested let me know cause I can easily show you how to do it this way.
