It still baffles me as to why < % # IsEditable % > will not work in my custom module, but my work around was to set the visible property in the page load event with IIf ( IsEditable , True, False ).

You would have to use either an asp style assignment statement < %= IsEditable%> or when using your databinding statement make an explicit call to the Databind method on either the module control as a whole or on the control whose property you are setting. Because of this I tend to do assignments such as you have done in the Page_Load event also.
